Johnson City runners finish fourth at own relay meet
The Johnson City High School girls cross country team was fourth at its own Eagle Nation 6-Mile Relay Aug. 15.
Jackie Earley led the way by finishing her run in 9 minutes and 16 seconds. Claire White was next in 9:41. Avery Hailey clocked 10:35.
“For the first meet of the season, we were really excited by some of the times on our tough course,” coach Rich Powers said. “The athletes are working extremely hard in practice and that has set the tone for the potential of the season.”
Emily Moore was 11th in the girls junior varsity race, finishing in 11:34, while Emma Mayes clocked 13:35.
Coaches also were pleased with the Eagles.
Antonio Perez finished his run in 8:26 to pace the boys varsity team. Zach Haley was done in 9:30, Richard Massey completed his leg in 9:55, and Michael Axtell clocked 10:59. The Eagles were 11th overall in the team standings.
